So here I am, the beginning of September and the last day of my Marketing/PR Internship at Morey’s Piers. Where in the world did the time go? I’m happy to say that in these three very short months, not only was I welcomed as part of the team, but as part of the Morey family, and I’m so grateful for the experience.
As an intern you have certain expectations—mainly being treated like a subordinate. Morey’s couldn’t have strayed any further from that stereotype. By the third week of my internship, coworkers from different departments would walk by and say “Hi Danielle, how are you?” I was shocked that they actually knew my name. It didn’t take much time to realize that people around here truly care about you, and a good laugh is only ever a few desks away.
Aside from the people, there was the work aspect of things. I was more than pleased to find that those student loans were totally worth it. HALLELUJAH. The marketing team really took note of what my strengths were, and gave me so many different projects this summer; graphic design, writing blogs, creating advertisements you name it. My favorite of all was the unexpected opportunity I had to be their designated photographer this summer. Who knew I was good at it?
It wasn’t all work and no play at Morey’s though. I mean come on… we’re an amusement park! How many people can say their job consists of posing in a Zombie Mud Run photo-shoot, filming a dance to It’s Raining Men on a stormy day, or raising money for the SPCA by playing with dogs in the waterpark? Not many! I’ve learned a lot about marketing, but most importantly I’ve learned that it’s possible to love your job, and have fun while doing it. I couldn’t thank my bosses Jack, Tim, Maggie, and Kristel enough for such a rewarding internship.
