In a family owned amusement park, you wear many hats. I am no exception. In addition to my job at Raging Waters, I am also a Resident Manager for the Department of Residence Life, or more simply, ‘employee housing.’
Work begins every October, at all of the 4 Morey’s Piers owned houses and wraps up before Easter. Each house has painting done on walls, ceiling fans are replaced and doors are repaired. The house I reside in has 35 residents and its mind boggling to even guess how many times the front door opens and closed each day, week, month, and year. You do the math.
Many standard household items are replaced each year, such as area rugs, linens, mattresses, and kitchen appliances. Some more recent ambitious projects have included a roof replacement, heating upgrades, and lots of painting. It’s not an uncommon sight in the winter to see me pushing a shopping buggy full of sheets, pillows, glassware, and even toasters at the local K-Mart.
Our first group of residents arrive right before we open. Different residents come and go all summer through October. After the last employee heads back home, we start preparing for the next season.
If you are in the area, I will be the one in K-Mart with 26 toasters.
