KONG Makes a Comeback

KONG Makes a Comeback

May 21st, 2015. The gorilla must have been getting cold feet for his big debut because the weather forecast called for 100% rain leading up to the KONG Hollywood Sneak Preview Event, and rain is exactly what it did.  But as the saying goes, “The Show Must Go On!”

So the Hollywood-esque stage was set, complete with a soggy red carpet, champagne and a photo op with KONG himself. Despite the rain and cool temperatures that night, a brace and die-hard group, of 250 guests sashayed down the red carpet (well, it was more like burgundy) to the brand new KONG attraction that once ruled the 26th Street Pier in 1972.

With bright blue eyes and smoke billowing from it’s nose, KONG was the center of attention as he loomed over the Wildwood sky hanging from a 60-foot lighthouse while holding the infamous Sightseer Tramcar as a display of searchlights lit up the cloudy North Wildwood skies. After a short speech from Will & Jack Morey, a bottle of champagne christened the attraction and local school children started to fill the “flying scooters” and take the ‘first flight’ around the mighty KONG.

Food was in abundance as Executive Chef, Wally Jurusz, prepared a delicious array of canapés, along with some boardwalk favorites for the kiddies.  Of course there were plenty of Curley Fries to go around!  At KONG’s request guests were also treated to chocolate frozen bananas, banana sodas and mouth-watering banana cupcakes…it was a night of banana frenzy!

Plenty of happy guests were also treated to be the first to step foot inside the brand new retail store “KONG & Co.” located underneath the attraction. Guests had the opportunity to see the new selection of merchandise and apparel on display.  At the end of the night, guests left with smiles on their faces, bellies full of delicious food, and a grand sense of wonder and excitement that keeps our guests coming back summer after summer.
