Tomorrow is probably the most anticipated holiday of the summer (right after Independence Day, of course)- it’s National Ice Cream Sandwich Day!
How are you going to celebrate? Traditional ice cream sandwiches? Chipwiches? How about a Rice Cream Sandwich?
Why, yes. Yes, that’s ice cream sandwiched between two rice cereal treats.
Rice Creams is a family owned and operated company right here in New Jersey, just like Morey’s Piers! Creator Drew Christoffel’s mother used to make the treats as an after school snack for him and his brother in the early 80’s. Her idea inspired Drew to start Rice Creams in the early 2000’s. All the sandwiches are handmade in a commercial kitchen in Clifton, NJ. The marshmallow and crisped rice wafers are laid out in sheets like giant pizza pies and then cut into circles. Ice cream is placed onto a wafer and then topped with another wafer before entering the blast freezer. When they’re perfect and frozen, the Rice Cream sandwiches are packaged and put into a deep freezer. You can find these treats at ballparks all over the state, but Morey’s Piers is the only place in South Jersey where you can enjoy one.
