The amusement industry trade association of IAAPA (the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions) holds a yearly Expo where leadership from parks around the world converge to attend educational seminars and see what’s new in our industry. This year, the event was held at the Orlando Convention Center in Florida. I, along with over 20 other members of our team, attended the Expo last week. This was my 10th time at the show, and I still think it’s an amazing event. We attended seminars on topics such as safety, recruiting, group sales, and countless others. This year, I was invited to speak at a seminar entitled “The World’s Greatest Training Practices” along with representatives from Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, NBC Universal, and Warner Village Theme Parks. We talked about best practices in safety training and employee development, and provided those in attendance with ideas and information to help improve programs at their parks. It was a wonderful experience topped off by Morey’s Piers receiving the IAAPA Spirit of Excellence Award for Best Orientation Program. Needless to say, we are ecstatic to win such an award, especially considering that we were competing against some of the largest and most well know parks around the world. In years past, we won runner up in this category and first place in the Best Employee Recognition Program category. The IAAPA Spirit of Excellence Awards “honor IAAPA members who are committed to excellence in training and professional development.”
Another huge win for us (and you!) is the IAAPA Must See Waterpark Award. Morey’s Piers Beachfront Waterparks won this award for “providing visitors a unique and memorable experience based on excellence in Guest Service, Operations and Safety!”
We also participated in a couple charity events benefiting Give Kids the World, including the IAAPA Charity International Golf Tournament and the IAAPA Charity 5K Fun Run and 1 K Fun Walk. Check out the picture of our team at the charity run/walk! “Give Kids the World is a non-profit organization located in central Florida that creates magical memories for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families thorough cost-free accommodations, tickets, and meals at the GKTW Village and other Central-Florida Amusement attractions.” You can learn more about this wonderful charity at www.gktw.org.
