The other day was the first day of summer, both Ocean Oasis and Raging Waters are open in full force. Saturday marks the beginning of our full season schedule. So what’s new and exciting up at the piers? Over the past couple of months we’ve told you about our paint shop, new trains for the Great White, renovations at Jumbo’s and a slew of other improvements we have been working on to make 2011 the best season yet.
“it”, our new thrill ride on Surfside Pier, leads the list of new exciting things, this ride spins, swings and hurls you 65 feet into the air, and let me tell you, it’s a good ride. I’ve personally ridden it over twenty times so far and I’m not about to stop.
Jumbo’s also boasts a new and updated look and now offers beer, wine and select specialty drinks. Be sure to stop by and see what all the talk is about. Oh, and order the Cuban spiced fries (personal favorite). Chef Wally has also selected an amazing list of beers that will please any beerficianatio’s palate.
Joe’s Fish Co. is boasting a few great new additions as well, including the “sandwich of the day” and entrée specials. You really can’t go wrong with any of the specials. If you’re looking for something light around lunchtime, the gourmet pizzas or the veggie burger (which is on great bread and topped with roasted vegetables) are a sure bet. Joe’s also makes an unbelievable coconut margarita (mine was virgin, of course. I DO have work to do!).
And then there’s dessert, my favorite meal! Jumbo’s now offers a Jersey Shore classic, Funnel Cake. Joe’s has Red Velvet Cake and Sweets n’ Treats, located under the Sea Serpent on Mariner’s Landing, has a wide range of ice cream and candy to please just about anyone. If you’re looking for something savory and sweet, you have to try the Dark Chocolate Caramels with Sea Salt. They’re my kryptonite.
Just off Mariner’s Landing Pier on the corner of Schellenger and Atlantic Ave lies a little restaurant called Jersey Girl, known by the locals as one of the best unknown places. Jersey Girl offers a wide range of food that specializes in being local and fresh. It’s one of my favorites and they offer an early dining special where you can get 2 entrees and soup or salad off a select menu for just $30. It’s a steal and the atmosphere, themed after the Springsteen song the restaurant is named for, offers a nice change of pace from the excitement and action on the pier.
Ok, so this is just a joke around the office, but really please wait a while after you eat before you ride “it”. Enough said!
There are always great things to experience from the new immersive show at Ghost Ship that takes the entire experience to new creeping and terrifying heights, to the relaxing Wiki Kiniki Kabanas at Raging Waters that offer your family your own home base amongst the action of the Waterpark. Breakfast in the Sky will give your morning a boost, but reservations are almost filled. The Morey Store always has fun new Morey’s Piers merchandise arriving with pop-up sales and specials all the time!
Overall and through the years the one thing that never needs improving is you, our guests. Each improvement, menu change or special was crafted just for you, to make your visit the best it can be. It’s always great to hear your comments and suggestions. You can always stop by guest services, Shoot Lee an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or even give us a call. Have a great 2011 and see you at the Shore!
