Before Sunny C. Gull and Curley Fry, Morey’s Piers had a few other crazy characters running around, posing for photos and making kids smile (or cower in terror if you’re one of those kids who are traumatized by giant animals waddling around awkwardly).
Long before my time, when velociraptors roamed the Earth, Morey’s Piers developed its first mascot.

Percy the Pelican was introduced around 1976. He had his own fountain at the front of Mariner’s Landing as well as a hot air balloon to advertise the BIG 2, which were what Morey’s Pier at 26th street and Mariner’s Landing were referred to for a while.

He was apparently a friendly pirate pelican. Big thanks to Anthony Canzano, our Audio Video & Telecom Technician, Dark Ride Specialist and resident Boardwalk Historian for the amazing photos.
Poor Percy met his end in the office fire of 1981. Morey’s didn’t reintroduce a new mascot until the early 90’s.
