We play hard but we work even harder and the Platinum Safety Award, recently presented to Morey’s Piers & Beachfront Waterparks, is a testament to that. In 2010, only the top 10% of the 400 eligible waterparks worldwide received this distinction. This prestigious safety award is the highest safety rating achievable and signifies that our waterparks are among the safest in the world. The Platinum Safety Award was presented to both waterparks by the leading safety consulting firm to the resort and waterpark industry, Ellis and Associates.
Each season our lifeguards are required to go through an intensive, weeklong training course. Throughout this week lifeguards learn their lifesaving skills including water rescues, CPR, basic first aid, scanning techniques, operating procedures, and the use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
Throughout the months of May and June we train approximately 200 lifeguards. If you just so happen to visit our waterparks during these months it is not unusual for you to see lifeguards in action performing their drills. Lifeguards are expected to keep their skills at a test ready level and to maintain a high standard of performance. Attending mandatory, weekly trainings allows lifeguards the opportunity to do this.
As one of Morey’s Piers certified lifeguard instructors, I know first hand how critical these trainings are in operating safe waterparks. This award is a tribute to the many lifeguards and aquatic supervisors who work hard each summer to keep our tradition of excellence alive. We are constantly striving to raise the bar and I am happy to be a part of what we call, TEAM W.A.V.E; because We All Value Excellence!
