Morey’s Piers Associate Receives Award Recognized for Volunteer Outreach

August 28, 2012

On August 23rd, Tarence L. Smith, an associate at Morey’s Piers and Beachfront Waterparks, received the President’s Call to Service Award. The award recognizes "lifetime" achievement in volunteer outreach of a minimum of two years and 4000 hours of community service. The award is presented in cooperation with the Corporation for National & Community Service and USA Freedom Corps. The award cites over fourteen years of "making a difference" in the lives of the youth of New Jersey and our Nation.

“We are grateful for Tarence's community based ethos and find him to be an inspiration for Morey's Piers own community based initiatives,” said Will Morey, President and CEO of Morey’s Piers.

Smith is active in the New Jersey Elks Peer Leadership Conference, the Hugh O'Brien Leadership program and holds the distinction of being the only student from Gloucester County New Jersey to ever be elected Governor at the American Legion program known as Boys State. He serves as a member of staff and advisor to that program and others. Smith uses his caring personality and ability to relate to young people as a staff trainer for Morey's Piers. The award came upon the approval and with a commendation letter from the White House signed by President Barack Obama.

Award recipients will be permanently mentioned in the Presidential Library of the awarding President. Making the presentation is William J. Oakley, Past State President of the New Jersey State Elks Association.

Morey’s Piers would like to congratulate Tarence Smith on his award and his outstanding commitment to excellence at Morey’s Piers and within the community.
