Morey’s Piers Presents “Third Thursdays” at artBOX
Featuring Specialty Art Classes, Artist Demonstrations, Live Music, Free Food Samples, and More
This summer, Morey’s Piers, located on the boardwalk of Wildwoods, NJ, introduces “Third Thursdays” at artBOX, the interactive artists’ colony crafted from 11 re-purposed shipping containers on Adventure Pier. Taking place on June 19, July 17, and August 21, 2014 from 6pm to 9pm, “Third Thursday” events provide opportunities for the artistically minded to mingle with resident and visiting artists, take art lessons, enjoy live entertainment, and more.
Each “Third Thursday,” Dwell Studios will host a “Bottles and Brushes” class from 6:00pm to 8:00pm for students to create a painting utilizing acrylic paints and an 11 X 14 canvas, all while sipping on local wine and craft beers. Classes are $30 per person. Limit of 30 people per class; advance registration required at artBOX Bottles and Brushes.
In the main gallery-shipping container, visiting artists will showcase a rotating collection of new art pieces and meet and interact with guests. The summer 2014 line-up of current visiting artists includes:
•Corey Hudson, who uses wood salvaged from the destruction left behind by the Superstorm Sandy on the beaches and boardwalks of the New Jersey coastline to create reclaimed wood works.
• Ray Nunzi, a southern New Jersey photographer.
• Local Lou Fermante, specializing in skate and surf artwork.
• Lisa Bagwell, an environmentally responsible resident of the garden state who creates pieces of art from recycled materials including cartons, cups, plastic and cutlery.
• Billy and Kate Boylan, a husband and wife artistic duo from Philadelphia focusing on jewelry, paintings, prints and collages.
artBOX resident artists will deliver first-hand demonstrations of their crafts including glass blowing by Pete Bieling Jr., surf art by David Macomber, and traditional seascape painting by Pete Bieling Sr. In addition, visitors will be treated to complimentary smoothie samples from ALOHA Smoothie Company, and homemade ice cream from Sweet Pea. From the upper deck of artBOX, students from the School of Rock will entertain with live music throughout the evening.
