    What will you be celebrating?

    April 17th, 2013

I’m not sure about you, but when it comes to celebrating I can find just about anything to “raise my glass and toast” when I’m with my friends or family!  I am a true believer that there’s always something going on in our lives that deserves recognition.  Why not?? For those of you who aren’t aware, Memoreys by Morey’s Piers has teamed up with Morey Resorts and we have some amazing things to celebrate!  From weddings, milestone anniversaries, graduations, birthdays and even personal triumphs (one of my favs!), our summer is jammed packed with fun things to attend! Oh wait, I am supposed to be helping you plan your special occasion.

Morey Resorts, consisting of 5 beautiful hotels: The Port Royal, The Pan American, The Jolly Roger, The Blue Palms, and the Starlux, now are working with the Memoreys team hand in hand to help make your vacation experience even more wonderful.  Renew your vows on the beach while the family is together on vacation, celebrate missed birthdays and anniversaries because you only get together once a year, or how about just dinner reservations for your group to get together for the night while you’re all in town?  All of these and much more can be easily arranged for you now as Morey Resorts guest.
Will you celebrating something special while you’re vacationing with us? I’d love to hear!

If you have a special occasion you’d like to celebrate while staying at one of our Morey Resorts, please contact me at:

Your Event at Morey’s: Behind the Scenes

    September 25th, 2012

You’ve had the opportunity to see photos from the weddings and special events that took place here at Morey’s this summer, but you haven’t had a chance to see what goes on behind the scenes when we are in preparation mode. Here’s a sneak peak…

For those of you who have had the opportunity to host a special occasion with us, you’ve more than likely dealt with myself, and my colleague Kristel. We are the fun and smiley team that you actually get to meet with! However when it comes time to make your vision a reality, there are quite few key individuals here at Morey’s that Kristel and I rely on to get things done.
Let’s take our last wedding as an example: 320 chairs set up, as well as Fuschia bows tied around them. 250 pink lanterns put together and hung from the roof of the pavilions. Approximately 40 picnic tables removed with a forklift. 22 table runners and table numbers strategically placed. 18 strands of lights hung high over the dance floor. 1 scissor lift. 2 eight foot ladders. 3 different shades of pink Toile wrapped around places we never really even pay attention to. And that’s just the beginning!!
When it comes time for the things that Kristel and I can’t do on our own, we send emails out to our wonderful facilities team and let them know when we need everything done by. I will be the first person to tell you that a lot of times they get really silly questions, such as: “Kevin, how am I supposed to hang lanterns up really, really high on this tall ceiling?” Or,“Joe. She would like lights strung from fishing string and somehow attached from one end of the air to the other. Can we please make this work?” Regardless of the crazy requests, they are the people that we rely on to get it done, and they always do.
After all of their hard work is done, our special events team now gets to add the final touches that provide the color and coordination to the special day. From the linens, centerpieces and cake table, we make sure that everything is perfect and exactly how the Bride-to-be envisioned her special day being.

The best part of the entire process is watching the bride and groom and their guests enjoying the beautiful setting we’ve help to create – that makes all the work and preparation well worth it. And the hardest part of the entire process you ask? That would be having to take everything down that we just spent so much time carefully putting into place.

    For the love of Wildwood…

    August 10th, 2012

Wildwood is known for many, many things.  Our beaches.  Boardwalks. Our Amusement Piers.  Watch the Tram Car Please.  However the one thing I am finding lately that Wildwood is known for, are its love stories.  Since starting Memoreys, (Morey’s Piers Wedding & Events section), I have had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people and discuss their upcoming wedding days, vow renewals, engagements, anniversaries, and even corporate events.  The thing that has shocked me the most is listening to the stories behind why people, just like you, would choose to host their special occasion here in Wildwood with Memoreys by Morey’s Piers.  This will be the first of a series of blogs, sharing some wonderful love stories that all began, took place, and/or ended right here in Wildwood. Some of these stories are just too good not to share!!

    Meet Sam & Shannon…

Sam & Shannon met in high school and started out as friends, but have now been dating for 8 years.  Shannons family has owned a home in the Wildwoods since she was 3, and Sam started tagging along to their weekly visits. In no time at all, Wildwood became thier favorite place by finding common interests together such as their love for the beach, the boardwalk, and Sams Pizza! (They actually keep track of how many slices they’ve eaten this year with Sam coming in at 56 slices so far and Shannon at 28!)  Sam and Shannon spend so much time here in Wildwood that it was only fitting on the week of Valentines Day in 2011, that Sam proposed to her right here on our boardwalk!

Shannon had recently signed up to win a free engagement photo shoot with Memoreys by Morey’s Piers & with photographer Erin McCusker and won!  I am so happy that they did. They were an adorable couple, and we had so much fun running around Mariner’s Landing & Wildwood taking their photos that they will now have to cherish forever.  Take a sneak peek at some of the shots we got:

Thier Beach Themed wedding will take place this August and is Wildwood themed…it even includes Tram Car Centerpieces. Congratulations Sam & Shannon, and we are so happy to have gotten the chance to share a Memorey with you.

If you have a unique love story where Wildwood holds a special meaning to you, please email me! I’d love to hear!

    How Forever Feels…

    June 21st, 2012
Country Superstar Kenny Chesney’s newest composition “Connecting the Dots” is exactly what one local couple did prior to the free concert on Wildwood Beach last night, and I got to witness it all, as well as somewhat be a part of the crazy pre-planning!!
    Let me explain…
I was contacted by a very enthusiastic gentleman about two weeks ago named Mark Majors who proceeded to tell me that he HAD TO marry his girlfriend Lauri Anne Ratliff on the beach with their toes in the sand, right before the Kenny Chesney Concert, and he needed help. This story might be one for the records.

During their pre-teens, Lauri Ann was a friend of Major’s younger sister, Vickie Lynn.  “I remember them playing dress-up, out of my mothers closet.” Major said. “But, when you are 14 years old, it is the older sister’s friends that catch your eye.” Nearly 4 decades later Lauri Ann has not only caught Majors eye, but captured his heart as well.

“Someday I am going to be your wife” Lauri recently exclaimed while they danced to Chesney’s ballad Me and You. “Can you wait until I can afford to hire Kenny?” Mark replied. “We won’t live long enough,” she said. (and I am pretty sure she was right!) It was only 36 hours later that Kenny Chesney announced that he would perform a free concert on the Wildwood Beaches, and 24 hours after that Mark proposed. And approximately 12 seconds after that, plans were in the making and my phone was ringing.

With less than two weeks to prepare for this wedding, numerous phone calls, emails and discussions, we found Mark and Lauri the perfect venue to accommodate their nuptials, The Jersey Girl. The Jersey Girl offers wonderful food and service, and a relaxing atmosphere with an outdoor patio which was where the ceremony took place.

Working with people as closely as I do, I get a little attached sometimes, I’ll admit it! Knowing that Mark and Lauri were exchanging their vows right up the street at 8pm before the concert started, I decided to sneak down to watch them so that I could be a part of their special moment. Mark sang a song to his new bride, people from the street watched their ceremony take place, and I snapped photos and laughed at Marks jokes.

Mark and Lauri now get to know How Forever Feels, and believe it or not, I learned in the vows they wrote to each other that they have only been dating for about a month!!!! Whew, there is no doubt that things like this Don’t Happen Twice! Congratulations Mark & Lauri, and I was happy to play some sort of a role in your wedding.

Have your cake, and eat it too….

    May 25th, 2012

So you’re newly engaged, and I am sure that the thought of planning a “Destination Wedding” has absolutely crossed your mind.  Getting married on the beach, not having to worry about every little detail just seems so much easier, right? But it is your day, a day that you’ve waited your entire life for. Hey, I don’t blame you for wanting all 150 of your closest family and friends to share that special moment. See you in your beautiful white dress.  Watch you walk down the aisle. Dance the night away together and enjoy the celebration with you. That’s what weddings are all about! I am sure you’ve paid your dues…you deserve all of these things.

A destination wedding doesn’t mean that you have to jump on a plane to the most tropical island you can think of, leaving behind Granny and your best friends. (Now we get to the eating your cake part, calorie free)  You can now have a whole wedding weekend planned out where your guests can be in a driving distance, still sit on the beach, relax, hit the pool, and then share your special moments with you.  Or maybe you’d like the men to be able to take a fishing trip while the women get massages in a cabana by the pool.  Enjoy the waterparks and amusement piers while you get ready to walk down the aisle.  From site seeing, to shopping excursions, believe me when I tell you, we have you covered.

If you are seeking a wedding weekend filled with fun, memories, and leaving your guests talking about it for years to come, then you need to contact me. Our Memoreys staff would be happy to help you plan the day of your dreams.  Hosting weddings from 10-300 people, we will customize any package for you.

Oh, and one last thing….Memoreys by Morey’s Piers also offers all wedding related events!  So if you’re seeking our “G” –Rated Bachelorette Weekend Package, a Rehearsal Dinner, Bridal Shower or Engagement Party, I can’t wait to help you make your plans!

If you’d just prefer a small party or group to celebrate an important milestone…we have tons of great ideas for you. So when it comes to planning this years family gathering or party, please give me a call and I would be happy to help you come up with some unique ideas to help celebrate.

For the Love of a Soldier

    May 15th, 2012

My friend Sarah came over the other night and we started talking about old fashioned military romance and how her grandparents met 69 years ago during WWII and still remain happily married to this day. Of course, this got me thinking about the way old fashioned love used to be.  I started to read everything from love letters dated back to 1861 (the Civil War) to WW I & II, and so on and so forth. What piqued my interest the most was the level of dedication, the loyalty, and the degree of unconditional love that these couples had for each other. The romanticism of it all touched me in a way that I find hard to put into words.

Because of the unsure world we live in today, I was convinced that this was the way of the past, and not the present or the future, but through my research I realized how truly wrong I was. I read blogs, watched movies, and even searched my local library. My conclusion was in fact motivating and inspiring. There are still significant others, married or not, whose only method of communication to their soul mate is done via pen and paper, or email.  Our world moves so quickly that we tend to take for granted the fact that we can just simply be with the ones we love.  The kind of love that I had thought only existed in fairy tales is in fact a surreal reality for many.

My first thought was, will I someday have a love like this? My second thought was what can we do to contribute to those who actually do have that kind of love? Love that outlasts everyday life struggles and can bare the burden of being apart for extended periods of time. Love that belongs in letters  or movies, and in which we will someday tell our grandchildren about.

My next move was to approach my director and request that we put together some sort of package for military families. Whether we just do a fast ceremony with a  week’s notice, or we do a full blown, 200 person, planned  a year in advance, military gala, I’d like to show  how Morey’s not only appreciates  the Military service of our men and women, but also the value of true love and building memories together that will last a lifetime.

What started as a nostalgic notion became a full blown Morey’s mission.  My director immediately gave me the authorization to contact our local vendors to see who would participate in offering discounts to honor the brave men and women who serve our country. Low and behold, every vendor I contacted was more than willing to contribute a discount in some way.

Because of such amicable results, we were able to put together numerous packages that benefit every military love story wedding. Needless to say, I am proud to work for an organization that has made my heart’s priority their own.

    Love is an Extreme Ride

    May 7th, 2012

As the Wedding & Event Specialist here at Memoreys, I could write a list of the things I love about my job. However I would have to say that my favorite part of the planning is getting to meet different couples and hearing their love stories. Being a romantic at heart, I love asking people questions about their relationships.

I recently had the honor of meeting a young couple, Chris and Danielle, and they had a very unique story to tell me.  Chris and Danielle actually met working here, at Morey’s Piers.  After attending a training together, they left only knowing each others names and which ride the other worked for.  Danielle had no problem telling me that she left the training intrigued by this mystery man Chris, and wanted to know more about him.  Danielle said “Fate was on our side that day, because later on I ran into Chris at the Skycoaster on our pier!  I wanted to ride the Skycoaster, but the guy running the booth that day said I could only ride if I rode with Chris.  No complaints from me on that!  Chris suited me up and we walked up to the deck.  When we got on deck and hooked up to the carabineer, Dimitar the ride operator told us to lock arms.  As we were being pulled to the top of the tower; Chris asked me if I was afraid or if I was going to scream.  I told him nope this is my favorite ride.  He pulled the rip cord releasing us from the tower.  When the ride was over I needed one last thing, Chris’ number.  Luckily enough he gave it to me.  In almost 4 years a lot has changed, but one thing remains the same, I am in love with him and we are going to get married where it all began: at Morey’s Piers’ Skycoaster on Adventure Pier.”

Now that’s a unique story, right?  And the best part you ask?  I have the pleasure of planning a wedding on Adventure Pier for next August on the Skycoaster!!  Not many people can say they’ve attended a wedding on an Extreme Ride.

Danielle and Chris while working at Morey’s Piers.
