    Meet Jim & Michelle…

    November 14th, 2013

    Meet Jim & Michelle…

On May 2, 2008, Jim & Michelle went on their first date together, and exactly 6 years later to the date (May 2, 2014) they will be saying their “I do’s” with Memoreys by Morey’s Piers & Resorts at our Port Royal Hotel.  There are certain questions I always love to ask my brides because no answers are ever the same, especially when it comes to the unique weddings we host.  Take a look below to see why this special couple chose The Port Royal Hotel to host their upcoming wedding day:

Stephanie: Does Wildwood hold a special meaning to the two of you?

Michelle: Wildwood has always been the place where we have vacationed with each of our families, and it was also the first place that we had vacationed as a couple together.  We love coming to Wildwood because it feels like “home” to us in the summer months.  We love making memories there and now we are excited that our son will be able to grow up enjoying the same vacation spot that each of us did as children.

S: How far away from Wildwood do you reside?

M: We live in Philadelphia, PA which is roughly 100 miles or so.  Depending on the time of year, and traffic it usually takes us anywhere from 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours.

S: What were 2 major deciding factors that made you choose The Port Royal Hotel as your wedding location?

M: Jim and I really loved the overall atmosphere at the Port Royal Hotel.  It was elegant, yet warm and welcoming.  We also really liked the location in the Crest.

S: I’d love to share more of Michelle’s comments with you regarding her colors and theme that I had asked, but what fun would it be if the guests already knew particular aspects of their special day?!  We can’t wait to host Jim & Michelle’s upcoming nuptials, and we are so excited to be a part of their special day!

    Katie & Joe’s Wedding

    August 27th, 2013

Thanks to Adam Anderson Photography, I have the pleasure of showing everyone some amazing from photos from Katie & Joe’s Wedding held in our Rendezvous Beach Pavilion.  Let me tell you, this was one fun wedding!  Guests began dancing before they even ate, they added special touches that included their daughters, and the whole day was just a pleasure to be a part of.  The bride not only looked amazing, but she was literally glowing, (as you will notice in the photos!)  I hope you enjoy looking through their photos as much as I did!

Katie and Joe chose to see each other prior to the ceremony so they could utilize their surroundings for great photos before the reception began. Their “First Look” photos turned out beautiful.Having fun on our amusement piers always make great photo opps, as well as memories for the whole wedding party!

The reception is always one of my favorite parts. Watching everything come together, and all of the guests enjoying the celebration.

Now if I remember correctly, there was a gentleman at this wedding that caught the garter, and literally did one of the funniest dances that I have ever seen. I think it was to the Mission Impossible song, and every guest (including my staff), had the best time watching him! I wont however include that photo.

Congrats again Katie & Joe! We wish you many years of luck and happiness!

    Danielle & Brian’s Clambake Wedding

    July 31st, 2013

The summer season is in full swing, and Memoreys by Morey’s Piers has been busier than ever!  Every weekend has been jammed packed with weddings, vow renewals, corporate functions, rehearsal dinners, birthday parties, and family reunions…. just to name a few.  This past weekend we had the honor of hosting Danielle & Brian’s Wedding, and since I haven’t had much time to share some of the previous weddings or events with you, this is one you just shouldn’t have to miss!

Brian & Danielle’s wedding weekend began Friday evening with a quick rehearsal on our beach, and they were soon off to begin celebrating with their closest family members and friends at our very own Joe’s Fish Co. on 25th Street at Surfside Pier.  Since weddings aren’t just about the dress and the details, I have to add that as I watched the bride & groom-to-be (at that point) walk around and thank everyone for coming, you could tell that it was a celebration, and some of the guests they didn’t get to see as often as they would like to.  They shared hugs and laughs, took lots of photos, and even got a little dancing in before the big day.

The next day is always the really exciting part!  While my staff and I are busy putting together all of the important details, the couple was getting ready to say “I do” and to create memories that they will have forever.   The bride & groom chose to see each other prior to the ceremony to get rid of the jitters, as well as to get tons of photo opportunities. Danielle walked down the aisle of beach sand, and Brian was holding back tears! (So sweet!)  After the ceremony, everyone came up to  the reception space, which was exactly what Danielle had envisioned when I first met her over a year ago when she began planning. She wanted a relaxed, fun, clam bake type of wedding on the beach, that set her special day apart from everyone else’s.  It’s safe to say that is exactly what she got:

Red & White Checkered Linens draped the picnic tables with Burlap runners. Wildflowers were put in small, colored vases and scattered across the tables. Silver buckets for the left over shells were placed on each table, as well as colorful starfish for decoration.
The Bride and her Made of Honor (her sister), both looking fabulous and drinking from the colorful paper straws that she provided  to put in the drinks. I must say, a very nice touch!Wooden signs with  cute sayings or information written in chalk were placed around the reception area to make things personalized and fun.The guest book was actually a poloroid camera guest book! LOVED the idea, as well as how it turned it out.  Guests visited this table throughout the night to take fun photos, and leave best wishes for the newlyweds.Guests began dancing the night away almost immediately, and didn’t stop until it was time to go home.

There was just something about this special day, and couple, that I had to share. Sometimes when I get a second to sit back and take a deep breath within all of the chaos of summer, I am reminded that its couples like Danielle and Brian that make my job amazing. Makes me smile just thinking of it.

Morey’s Piers #1 Fan Takes the Plunge

    July 1st, 2013
Since meeting Judy in February, I’ve caught myself having conversations that I’ve never had, (or thought I would ever have), with a bride before.  Such as: “Judy, tell me you love me, because I have just arranged for our Curley Fry Mascot to attend your wedding day!!!”  Screams of laughter and excitement is what I always got on the other end of the phone with her.  She was such a pleasure to work with, and getting to learn why and just how much she loves Wildwood and Morey’s Piers was probably the best part!
For years, Judy and her family have been Season Pass Holders with us, and like most of you, they LOVE to come to Wildwood and spend their summers down the shore.  This past Wednesday, June 26th, we had the opportunity to host Judy’s wedding, and she couldn’t have been more happy. All she wanted was  a simple, fun, and personalized day, and that’s exactly what she got! Things such as Combo Passes, Morey’s Piers beach towels, Churros and water ice for dessert, Salt Water Taffy centerpieces from Laura’s Fudge, cabana rentals in our waterpark, and Morey’s Piers Commemorative Cups are just an example of some of the things that she provided for her guests.
It’s not every day we get to host weddings like Judy’s! At this point, it’s safe to say that Memoreys by Morey’s Piers can accommodate anything from a mid-week wedding of 40 guests, to an elegant, beach front wedding of 225 people like this past Fridays.
Take a look below for some of the special details on Judy’s day:

    What will you be celebrating?

    April 17th, 2013

I’m not sure about you, but when it comes to celebrating I can find just about anything to “raise my glass and toast” when I’m with my friends or family!  I am a true believer that there’s always something going on in our lives that deserves recognition.  Why not?? For those of you who aren’t aware, Memoreys by Morey’s Piers has teamed up with Morey Resorts and we have some amazing things to celebrate!  From weddings, milestone anniversaries, graduations, birthdays and even personal triumphs (one of my favs!), our summer is jammed packed with fun things to attend! Oh wait, I am supposed to be helping you plan your special occasion.

Morey Resorts, consisting of 5 beautiful hotels: The Port Royal, The Pan American, The Jolly Roger, The Blue Palms, and the Starlux, now are working with the Memoreys team hand in hand to help make your vacation experience even more wonderful.  Renew your vows on the beach while the family is together on vacation, celebrate missed birthdays and anniversaries because you only get together once a year, or how about just dinner reservations for your group to get together for the night while you’re all in town?  All of these and much more can be easily arranged for you now as Morey Resorts guest.
Will you celebrating something special while you’re vacationing with us? I’d love to hear!

Your Event at Morey’s: Behind the Scenes

    September 25th, 2012

You’ve had the opportunity to see photos from the weddings and special events that took place here at Morey’s this summer, but you haven’t had a chance to see what goes on behind the scenes when we are in preparation mode. Here’s a sneak peak…

For those of you who have had the opportunity to host a special occasion with us, you’ve more than likely dealt with myself, and my colleague Kristel. We are the fun and smiley team that you actually get to meet with! However when it comes time to make your vision a reality, there are quite few key individuals here at Morey’s that Kristel and I rely on to get things done.
Let’s take our last wedding as an example: 320 chairs set up, as well as Fuschia bows tied around them. 250 pink lanterns put together and hung from the roof of the pavilions. Approximately 40 picnic tables removed with a forklift. 22 table runners and table numbers strategically placed. 18 strands of lights hung high over the dance floor. 1 scissor lift. 2 eight foot ladders. 3 different shades of pink Toile wrapped around places we never really even pay attention to. And that’s just the beginning!!
When it comes time for the things that Kristel and I can’t do on our own, we send emails out to our wonderful facilities team and let them know when we need everything done by. I will be the first person to tell you that a lot of times they get really silly questions, such as: “Kevin, how am I supposed to hang lanterns up really, really high on this tall ceiling?” Or,“Joe. She would like lights strung from fishing string and somehow attached from one end of the air to the other. Can we please make this work?” Regardless of the crazy requests, they are the people that we rely on to get it done, and they always do.
After all of their hard work is done, our special events team now gets to add the final touches that provide the color and coordination to the special day. From the linens, centerpieces and cake table, we make sure that everything is perfect and exactly how the Bride-to-be envisioned her special day being.

The best part of the entire process is watching the bride and groom and their guests enjoying the beautiful setting we’ve help to create – that makes all the work and preparation well worth it. And the hardest part of the entire process you ask? That would be having to take everything down that we just spent so much time carefully putting into place.

    For the love of Wildwood…

    August 10th, 2012

Wildwood is known for many, many things.  Our beaches.  Boardwalks. Our Amusement Piers.  Watch the Tram Car Please.  However the one thing I am finding lately that Wildwood is known for, are its love stories.  Since starting Memoreys, (Morey’s Piers Wedding & Events section), I have had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people and discuss their upcoming wedding days, vow renewals, engagements, anniversaries, and even corporate events.  The thing that has shocked me the most is listening to the stories behind why people, just like you, would choose to host their special occasion here in Wildwood with Memoreys by Morey’s Piers.  This will be the first of a series of blogs, sharing some wonderful love stories that all began, took place, and/or ended right here in Wildwood. Some of these stories are just too good not to share!!

    Meet Sam & Shannon…

Sam & Shannon met in high school and started out as friends, but have now been dating for 8 years.  Shannons family has owned a home in the Wildwoods since she was 3, and Sam started tagging along to their weekly visits. In no time at all, Wildwood became thier favorite place by finding common interests together such as their love for the beach, the boardwalk, and Sams Pizza! (They actually keep track of how many slices they’ve eaten this year with Sam coming in at 56 slices so far and Shannon at 28!)  Sam and Shannon spend so much time here in Wildwood that it was only fitting on the week of Valentines Day in 2011, that Sam proposed to her right here on our boardwalk!

Shannon had recently signed up to win a free engagement photo shoot with Memoreys by Morey’s Piers & with photographer Erin McCusker and won!  I am so happy that they did. They were an adorable couple, and we had so much fun running around Mariner’s Landing & Wildwood taking their photos that they will now have to cherish forever.  Take a sneak peek at some of the shots we got:

Thier Beach Themed wedding will take place this August and is Wildwood themed…it even includes Tram Car Centerpieces. Congratulations Sam & Shannon, and we are so happy to have gotten the chance to share a Memorey with you.

If you have a unique love story where Wildwood holds a special meaning to you, please email me! I’d love to hear!

    How Forever Feels…

    June 21st, 2012
Country Superstar Kenny Chesney’s newest composition “Connecting the Dots” is exactly what one local couple did prior to the free concert on Wildwood Beach last night, and I got to witness it all, as well as somewhat be a part of the crazy pre-planning!!
    Let me explain…
I was contacted by a very enthusiastic gentleman about two weeks ago named Mark Majors who proceeded to tell me that he HAD TO marry his girlfriend Lauri Anne Ratliff on the beach with their toes in the sand, right before the Kenny Chesney Concert, and he needed help. This story might be one for the records.

During their pre-teens, Lauri Ann was a friend of Major’s younger sister, Vickie Lynn.  “I remember them playing dress-up, out of my mothers closet.” Major said. “But, when you are 14 years old, it is the older sister’s friends that catch your eye.” Nearly 4 decades later Lauri Ann has not only caught Majors eye, but captured his heart as well.

“Someday I am going to be your wife” Lauri recently exclaimed while they danced to Chesney’s ballad Me and You. “Can you wait until I can afford to hire Kenny?” Mark replied. “We won’t live long enough,” she said. (and I am pretty sure she was right!) It was only 36 hours later that Kenny Chesney announced that he would perform a free concert on the Wildwood Beaches, and 24 hours after that Mark proposed. And approximately 12 seconds after that, plans were in the making and my phone was ringing.

With less than two weeks to prepare for this wedding, numerous phone calls, emails and discussions, we found Mark and Lauri the perfect venue to accommodate their nuptials, The Jersey Girl. The Jersey Girl offers wonderful food and service, and a relaxing atmosphere with an outdoor patio which was where the ceremony took place.

Working with people as closely as I do, I get a little attached sometimes, I’ll admit it! Knowing that Mark and Lauri were exchanging their vows right up the street at 8pm before the concert started, I decided to sneak down to watch them so that I could be a part of their special moment. Mark sang a song to his new bride, people from the street watched their ceremony take place, and I snapped photos and laughed at Marks jokes.

Mark and Lauri now get to know How Forever Feels, and believe it or not, I learned in the vows they wrote to each other that they have only been dating for about a month!!!! Whew, there is no doubt that things like this Don’t Happen Twice! Congratulations Mark & Lauri, and I was happy to play some sort of a role in your wedding.
