Mid-Century Architecture
Doo Wop architecture—as it’s called in The Wildwoods—with brash colors, outlandish styles
and far out themes, got its start in the 1950’s. Half a century later, Doo Wop architecture is once again all the rage in The Wildwoods. Jig sawed angles, colorful neon, crazy overhangs, pagoda peaks and lava-rock sidings are as distinctly visible throughout the island as they were in 1960.
Interested visitors can learn more about The Wildwoods’ motels on the Doo Wop Trolley Tour,an award winning 45-minute tour held throughout the summer.

Fun-Filled Activities for Everyone
By Land…
The outdoor sporting options are endless in The Wildwoods.Throughout the island there are basketball and tennis courts, bicycle and surrey rentals, beach aerobics, volleyball and more. The kids will love outdoor activities like miniature golf, seashell collecting and Captain Ocean’s
educational environmental sessions.

When it's time to hit the links, The Wildwoods have a nearby collection of 12 public, private and semi-private nine-and 18-hole golf courses that are sure to please even the pickiest players.

…The Wildwoods have the largest collection of mid-century commercial architecture in the United States, now labeled “Doo Wop.”

…The National Marbles Tournament is held here each June at Ringer Stadium, where ten square concrete platforms are permanently imbedded in the sand.

…Both the world’s largest and the world’s smallest kites have appeared in the Wildwoods during the Wildwoods International Kite Festival, held each Memorial Day Weekend.

…The only Revolutionary War battle fought in Cape May County was on Sunset Lake in Wildwood Crest. The U.S. Brigantine Nancy and British warships skirmished here in the Battle of Turtlegut.
