A Noble Occasion for Morey’s Piers

Over the weekend, we were honored to host some very important guests. Baron Friedhelm von Landsberg-Velen and Baroness Caroline von Landsberg-Velen of Haren, Germany,  and their three children spent a night in the penthouse of the Pan American Hotel and enjoyed some down time on the Wildwood Boardwalk and in Historic Cape May.

On Sunday evening, Morey’s Piers greeted the Baroness and family at the Giant Wheel with traditional German music and a champagne toast.  Our award-winning Executive Chef, Walter Jurusz, served hor d’oeuvres on the Ferris wheel and, of course, some iconic American Boardwalk appetizers including Curley’s fries, fudge and lemon shake-ups.

After a twilight carriage ride around Cape May, the Morey family accompanied the von Landsberg-Velen family for a world class dinner at the stunning Washington Inn.

“We visited their park in 2009 and they were such great hosts. They gave us the whole treatment,” said Will B. Morey, Waterpark Area Manager and third generation Morey. “We’re honored to return the gesture and host the Baroness and family at our facility.”

The Baroness, a former IAAPA board member, and the Baron run a “vacation and adventure paradise” in the heart of the Emsland region of Germany. Schloss Dankern Holiday Centre surrounds the family’s historic castle Dankern (yes, castle! It has a moat and everything!) and the beautiful Dankern Lake. The park offers 150 play, leisure and sporting activities along with a variety of holiday homes for guests to rent for a relaxing stay.
